This is the question we hear most often from clients who've done their research. They've heard of Control4, Savant, Crestron, and Lutron. They've read a few comparison articles online — most of which were written by dealers who carry only one platform and are trying to justify their inventory.

We install all four. We have no exclusive dealership agreement with any of them. Our recommendation always comes from the project requirements, not our sales targets. Here's what we actually think.

The one thing to understand first: The platform matters far less than the installer. A well-designed and correctly programmed Control4 system will outperform a poorly implemented Savant system in every dimension — reliability, usability, and longevity. Choose the installer first. The platform follows from your requirements.

Control4

Best for: Mid-luxury to premium homes wanting a comprehensive, future-proof system.

Control4 is the most widely installed luxury home automation platform in the world. It has the largest ecosystem of third-party compatible devices — over 9,000 as of 2026 — which means almost any AV component, security system, or smart device you want to integrate will have a driver available. The UI is polished and genuinely intuitive. The platform is stable. The certification programme for dealers is rigorous, which means the quality of installation is more consistently high than some competitors.

For homes in the ₹15–50 lakh automation budget range, Control4 is the most defensible recommendation we make. It hits the right balance of capability, ecosystem breadth, dealer support, and long-term value.

The honest trade-off: Control4 requires a certified dealer for programming, configuration changes, and upgrades. You cannot make any meaningful change to your system yourself. This is frustrating for some clients — particularly those who are technically inclined and want direct control. It's a non-issue for clients who just want the system to work.

Typical cost premium over basic wireless systems: 35–50% for equivalent scope.

Savant

Best for: Premium Apple-centric homes where AV integration and media control are priorities.

Savant has the most refined user interface in the category — full stop. If you live in the Apple ecosystem, Savant feels native in a way that no other platform does. The integration with Apple TV, AirPlay, and iOS is seamless. The app is genuinely beautiful. The AV integration — multi-source, multi-zone audio and video — is the best we've worked with.

We recommend Savant specifically when a client is deeply invested in Apple products, prioritises the highest-quality media experience, and has the budget for it. If those three things are true, Savant is the right answer.

The honest trade-off: Savant is more expensive than Control4 for equivalent scope — typically 20–30% more. The third-party device ecosystem is smaller. Dealer support in India is thinner. If your AV requirements are standard rather than exceptional, and you're not in the Apple ecosystem, Control4 will serve you better at a lower cost.

Typical cost premium over Control4: 20–30% for equivalent scope.

Crestron

Best for: Commercial spaces, boardrooms, ultra-high-end residential with unlimited budgets.

Crestron is the enterprise standard. It is the most capable, the most flexible, and the most expensive platform we work with. Custom programming in Crestron can do almost anything — there are essentially no integration limitations. This makes it the correct answer for complex commercial installations, multi-site deployments, and residential projects where budget is genuinely unlimited and highly bespoke behaviour is required.

For residential projects under ₹75 lakhs in automation budget, Crestron is almost always over-specified. The additional cost doesn't translate to a noticeably better experience for the homeowner — it buys flexibility and customisation depth that most residential clients will never need or use.

The honest trade-off: Significantly more expensive to install and to maintain. Programming is more complex, which means any changes require skilled dealer involvement. Overkill for the vast majority of residential projects.

Lutron

Best for: Lighting control specifically — as a standalone system or as the lighting layer within a larger platform.

Lutron is not a full home automation platform in the way Control4 or Savant is. It is the world's best lighting control system — and the difference in dimming performance, dimmer build quality, and long-term reliability compared to alternatives is genuinely significant and noticeable in daily use.

We frequently specify Lutron as the lighting layer within a Control4 or Savant system. Control4 + Lutron RadioRA 3 is a very common combination in our projects — Control4 handles the integration logic, scene management, and AV integration, while Lutron handles the actual dimming and switching with its superior dimmer hardware.

As a standalone system, Lutron Caséta or RadioRA is an excellent choice for clients who want high-quality lighting control but don't need the broader automation ecosystem. It integrates cleanly with voice assistants and Apple HomeKit.

The honest trade-off: As a standalone system, Lutron doesn't handle climate, AV, security, or scenes across multiple device types as elegantly as a full platform. It's a lighting specialist, not a whole-home automation platform.

What about KNX?

KNX deserves mention because it is the backbone of all our wired automation projects — paired with DALI for lighting control. KNX is an open international standard rather than a proprietary platform, which means you're not locked into a single manufacturer's ecosystem. It's exceptionally reliable, exceptionally future-proof, and the correct infrastructure choice when you're building into walls that will last 20+ years.

KNX + DALI forms the backbone — power supplies, bus couplers, actuators, DALI drivers and logic controllers. On top of this infrastructure we integrate a platform: Control4 for mid-tier wired projects, Savant for high-end wired projects.

Our recommendation by project type

For most Bangalore homes — new construction or retrofit:

Wireless is the right starting point. Modern wireless systems are reliable, expandable, and don't require civil work. We specify wireless for the majority of our projects — including new builds where clients don't want to commit all their automation decisions during construction. Don't let anyone tell you wired is always better; a well-specified wireless system is the correct engineering answer for most homes.

For clients who want wired infrastructure — new construction, walls open:

KNX + DALI as the backbone. The cabling and bus infrastructure you lay now will outlast every platform and every device by 20 years. On top of this: Control4 for mid-tier wired projects, Savant for high-end wired projects where AV integration and the Apple ecosystem are priorities.

For high-end lighting on wired projects:

Savant + Lutron. Specified together on our premium builds — Savant handles the integration, Lutron handles the actual dimming and switching at a quality level that nothing else matches.

For boardrooms and ultra-HNI residential:

Crestron. The most capable and most expensive platform we work with. Justified only when highly bespoke behaviour is required and budget is genuinely unlimited. For the vast majority of residential projects, it is over-specified.
